XGENS’ MODEL UN TRAINING ACADEMY MAIN COURSE
UN’S 17 Sustainable Development Goals
From the first day you arrive at the XGENS College Preparatory and Model UN Academy, the focus will be on establishing friendships of a lifetime and determining how to learn, think, write and interact together as Young Diplomats in Training to serve as Delegates and Judges, among other UN capacities.
A. Sudents in high school and college will explore the interrelationship of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through deep dives using World Building and Design Thinking. Valuable references of the 17 SDG’s, include:
1.2030 AGENDA for SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
2. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Students will explore and analyze the SDG’s by learning about different technologies (artistic, bio, communications, cyber, digital, energy, genetic, infrastructure, space exploration, and more) and related platforms (economic, governance, learning, and social, among others).
Students will also learn about the consensus approach and the process of how to apply it through the Vienna Forumula.
Other relevant topics will be taught along with key aspects of international law.
All of these concepts will be integrated through writing and oral presentations with the core goals of improving academic success, career potential and overall human performance.
B. Consistent with the XGENS Philosophy of Exponential Thinking, “we are creating new cognitive generations every 3 to 5 years,” students will consider their empowerment to change the world and achieve the underlying goals of the UN’s 17 SDG’s beginning today! This conceptual framework will be considered in the context of three essential elements necessary to achieve exponential performance and positive critical outcomes: critical thinking, empathy in context, and problem solving.
ACTIVITIES & OPPORTUNITIES
Specific activities and goals for the participating students are set forth below:
1. A significant focus will include meaningful, productive and fun exercises learning about and doing research regarding at least 1 specific topic of personal interest followed by 1 related to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
2. The next step will be learning how to effectively present your research and how to advocate your findings.
3. A third step will involve determining how to build consensus regarding your research position.
4. A fourth focus will be learning about the UN General Assembly and its Committees, and different councils and other important entities.
5. A fifth focus will be learning about position papers and how to research and write them.
6. A sixth focus will be to provide a context and motivating environment empowering XGENS students to begin preparing for both a shortened DXCIMUN to be held over a two day weekend at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery and DEMIGODLODGE where they will also have access to the Bavarian Town of Leavenworth, WA and other participants who were not part of the XGENS’ College Preparatory and Model UN Academy.
7. In anticipation of the aforementioned, students will be assigned countries, and either a general assembly committee or council for which they will prepare a position paper.
8. This training will prepare students to participate successfully as delegates in the one day DXCIMUN Model UN to be held at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery and DEMIGODLODGE.
9. Those delegates who have thoroughly enjoyed their Model UN experiences, and have a desire to connect with international students from as many as 70 different countries and every continent, will be offered the opportunity to participate as members of the DIGIVATIONS XGENS International Delegation. They will have access to registration benefits.
10. Desired results of this two week excursion include students creating an action plan for themselves with fellow collaborators to determine local actions they can implement in their local communities that can be scaled regionally, nationally and internationally.
11. They will also begin work on creating new artistic and innovative works, processes and products, and new models for learning and multidisciplinary thinking which can serve as vehicles to attract awareness and support of the SDG’s.
12. Students will also collaborate on designing roadmaps which address emerging and evolutionary career changes, and proposed redesign of economic, governance, legal and research models in the age of cyber citizenship and personal security encroachment which will address some key goals of the SDG’s.
