XA’IPETE!
For the first time ever, Yale Model Government Europe will take place in the grand city of Athens in Greece. Our team is delighted to visit Athens, a city ripe with history and culture!

SETTING THE SCENE!
The year is 350 BCE and you are a citizen of Athens on your way to the Agora where intellectuals gathered to exchange ideas. You arrive at what appears to be a market where the currency is persuasion. In your right, you are drawn to the bewitching words of Demosthenes, you have heard he is a sophist who stood against Macedonian king Philip II and whose speeches have established him as one of the greatest patriots and powerful orators from Ancient Greece. On your left, you have a woman who goes by the name of Agnodice of Athens who was the first female doctor in Athens. Aside from her medical remedies, she also provides healing for your soul with Stoic philosophy.
You hear a certain man who goes by the name of Plato has inaugurated the first academy of philosophy and the only requirement to get in is a well-disposed heart and geometry. Later on, Aristotle opens his Lyceum and his teachings, alongside Plato’s, spread outside the Agora into the Roman Empire.
Fast-forward to the year 1096 a new academy has been inaugurated in Great Britain that goes by the name of Oxford whose aim is pretty similar to what Plato had in mind. In 1636 and 1701, two colleges reach the new world. They go by the names Harvard and Yale and they continue to build on the legacy of their predecessors. Today, Yale is going back to its birthplace in Athens and simulate the Agora as Yale Model Government Europe XII!
We are beyond excited to host the conference in Athens next year, a city rich in culture and history, making it the best location for an experience that encourages diverse perspectives and conversation. We look forward to meeting you soon and exploring the city together while addressing a variety of topics during committee sessions.

XGENS 17 UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS INSTITUTE

The Institute will address the fundamental issues underlying each of the 17 SDG’s, and many of their 169 constituent targets.

Participants will learn “Design Thinking” processes which they will apply to hypothetical and actual development, as well as implementation of one or more solutions to their own local community challenges. This investment will serve as a core extracurricular project providing them with a competitive advantage for future college applications, internships and jobs. Participants will prepare a scalability plan enabling such solution(s) to be applied to similar challenges in other regions.

Participants will learn about the six UN organs, including UNESCO (ECOSOC) and departments, such as DESA, as well as commissions, forums and other bodies which are focused on enabling member states implementation of the SDG’s.

Among several underlying themes will be the Circular Economy and “systems value” processes involved in designing the life cycle of a product commencing from raw material extraction and extending to an unending chain of recycling into different products for diverse communities. Entrepreneurial business plans may also be studied that launched circular economy enterprises which enabled achievement of the SDG’s.

Discussions will also focus on core elements of different commissioned reports with a focus on science, technology and innovation and associated vital sustainable impacts.

Participants will also learn about UN processes and procedures including drafting resolutions using the consensus approach enabling collaboration of member states to solve fundamental societal challenges. These diverse challenges include climate change, economic development, education and literacy, preparing current generations to engage in meaningful careers and a future of valued work in the AI World, equity including eradicating hunger, poverty, gender inequality and abusive child labor practices, effective and ethical healthcare practices such as distribution of the COVD-19 vaccine, sustainable infrastructure, preserving the planet both on land and below water, and space exploration and colonization.

Participants will also develop their own interpretations of the SDG’s and targets through the arts including music, visual and theatrical skits and plays, as well as creative writing encompassing poetry and stories, and prototype models. These interpretations will enable each participant to serve as a community ambassador to promote awareness and application of the SDG’s by others.

Edifying Current Events:

The results of a recent experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory — the leading particle physics facility in the U.S. — suggests that our current understanding of the universe could be flawed, and Cornellians had a hand in the discovery.

NASA award winning DIGIVATIONS CAMP DEMIGOD INSTITUTE, campdemigod.org and harrypottercamps.org, and DIGIVATIONS XGENS, XGENS.org, commemorate the life of Apollo 11 Astronaut, Michael Collins. His heroism, humanity, ingenuity and inspiration profoundly impacted the lives of many youth catalyizing them to pursue the fields of art and architecture, design thinking, engineering, science and humanities.
DIGIVATIONS XGENS was pleased to participate in Yale Model UN XLVIII’s Virtual Conference, held January 20 - 23; YMUN 2022. DIGIVATIONS XGENS was accepted as a delegation for Harvard’s Model UN - In-Person Conference held in-person in Boston, January 27-30; HMUN 2022.

We are excited to provide you with an opportunity to participate in YMUN and/or Harvard Model UN in January, 2023. XGENS has been leading delegations to North American and global Model UN’s for several years as a result of the catalyzing influence of DIGIVATIONS’ Founders' son, Jacob Berman, now a student at Cornell University active in International Affairs and Finance, Environmental Sociology, Archaeology and many other subject domains. Jacob will join Drs. Steve and Anne as Faculty Advisors.

Having enjoyed leading delegations throughout the world including at the UN’s Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland; UN headquarters located in New York City; Yale University, New Haven; and several other cities, as well as Yale virtually in 2022, we believe they offer a brilliant and multi-faceted conference coupled with unique competitions designed to enable delegates a vital pathway to explore and highlight their many respective passions, inner strengths, and diverse perspectives and talents. Most significantly, participation in YMUN enables you to meet outstanding delegates from throughout the world who represent different countries’ cultures, governance systems, languages and histories, otherwise not available without years of traveling throughout the world. Imagine one venue where you explore and demonstrate who you are as a young leader which also provides you with the advantage of making new international friends.

In 2022, Yale University provided DIGIVATIONS XGENS' Delegation with excellent Conference Committee opportunities encompassing the General Assembly, European Commission, Regional Bodies, Specialized Agencies and Crisis Committees. The topics and issues enabled selected delegates to engage in significant research, enhance their written and oral/advocacy skills, immerse in significant intellectual discussion and debate, and learn to compromise enabling them to draft and pass impactful resolutions. As a result of the rigor of Model UN programs, and the 360 degree demands of high level Conferences, delegates who participate in YMUN and /or HMUN; are more likely to be evaluated as outstanding candidates for admission to the best colleges in the world, as well as invaluable internships, and other life enhancing opportunities.

Consistent with its mission to “Inspire the Next Generation of Innovators”, XGENS is announcing a new College Preparatory Sustainable Development Academy based on its NASA award winning STEM+ARTS+HUMANITIES+MOVEMENT curriculum. Consistent with new investments in intelligent infrastructure and transportation, smart cities and shelters, food security, advanced healthcare and biotechnologies, space exploration and commercial space, and meaningful careers in the world of AI, among other domains, DIGIVATIONS XGENS Academy will prepare students to acquire and apply foundational interdisciplinary knowledge solving SDG targets.

XGENS also announces a spotlight on UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, among other interrelated goals 1, 2, 8, 10, 12, 13, 16 and 17. XGENS will engage with a collaborative of international academic research centers including nanotechnology and other leading edge scientific and humanities communities which are focused on advancing healthcare technologies as well as societal innovations enabling sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social, and environment dimensions of sustainable development. Noted technologies, among others, encompass those supporting COVID-19 vaccines, biologic and genetic therapies, as well as AI applied to drug discovery and other innovative applied and translational scientific research designed to enhance good health and well being. These academic centers and societal innovation partners generate innovative solutions to the underlying SDG targets through interdisciplinary scientific research and applied science incorporating advanced education with a focus on next generation workforce skills, effective health and public policy and critical infrastructure investment including start-ups.

Consistent with its mission to “Inspire the Next Generation of Innovators”, XGENS is focused on engaging a community of middle school through high school students, Grades 8-11, in a SDG Innovation Social Venture Impact Competition, including XGENS-NANOENVISION, and XGENS YOUTH AMBASSADOR LEADERSHIP FORUMS where applied Science, Humanities & Literacy serve as the catalysts under the direction of DIGIVATIONS. The Social Venture Competition will integrate a global stakeholder community of educators (formal and informal), business and civic leaders, and UN sanctioned NGO’s working with underserved communities which will educate, guide and inspire the students.

The underlying goals will be to assemble interdisciplinary cohort teams who work together to develop cost effective innovations which will be deployed locally as well as globally as solutions to SDG 3 and other goals targets enabling healthier living and societies.

The competition will include three phases. One phase will include a design thinking and work plan stage leading to proposals which be evaluated, and the winners will receive opportunity awards that will be used to create both theoretical and functional prototypes. The prototypes will be judged based on prospective immediate and long term societal impact, innovation and relevance to achieving the targets of SDG3 and other goals with the selected winners receiving funding for the last phase. The third phase will yield tangible inventions that NGO’s can immediately implement positively impacting individuals and communities.

Humanities will serve a pivotal role in enabling scientific literacy and effective policy decisions for all individuals to ensure that disinformation is extinguished through personal empowerment and critical thinking skills development. Factually based information dissemination through XGENS-SDG community partnerships will prove valuable.

The following UN Video and SDG Partnership Guidebook serves as inspiration to engage participants to become active in positively transforming the world one valuable action after another. Every innovative moment in life matters, and you have the power to make a vital difference in others’ lives and society.

If you require additional inspiration about the WHY, please read a brief encapsulation about the 2030 Agenda for the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and UN Secretary-General’s, António Guterres’, United Nations pronouncement. Read The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2020 published by the UN - HERE and attached below.

We look forward to hearing from you.
Please correspond with Dr. Steve Lee Berman at dr.steve@digivationsxgens.org.

THE WHY: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was launched in 2015 to end poverty and set the world on a path of peace, prosperity and opportunity for all on a healthy planet. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) demand nothing short of a transformation of the financial, economic and political systems that govern our societies today to guarantee the human rights of all.

“Everything we do during and after this crisis [COVID-19] must be with a strong focus on building more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that are more resilient in the face of pandemics, climate change, and the many other global challenges we face.
António Guterres Secretary-General, United Nations”
