XGENS MODEL UN ACADEMIES & PARTNERS

Picture

UN MAIN ORGANS

The main organs of the UN are the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice, and the UN Secretariat. All were established in 1945 when the UN was founded.

XGENS MODEL UN TOPICS

The XGENS Founders, Organizers, & Acting Secretariat for its Model UN Academy, XGENS-CASCADIA INTERNATIONAL MUN, DXCIMUN, 4/16 to 4/19 has considered several different simulations and topics, a key focus will be on General Assembly Committee simulations which will include Climate Action & Adaptation, Space Exploration, Colonization and Weapnization, Future of Work in an AI World, as well as Security Council and ICJ simulations.

To provide vital Academic Training and Experiential Opportunties to better understand Climate Action, Mitigation & Adaptation simulations, XGENS is partnering with the renown Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, Leavenworth, WA which is overseen by the US Department of Interior. XGENS and LNFH will collaborate to immerse students in hands-on experiences and experiments, nature walks and water/river explorations, science investigations and fact finding missions. Significant local political leaders and indigenous citizens will also present their perspectives on mission critical preparations for the “War on Water” and control of Water Rights, and discuss why they are so important to the survival of society. Academic, government officials both from agencies (LNFH) and elected, and industry leaders will work with students to simulate stakeholder group leaders focused on Cascadia water rights management and ownership determinations and proposed consensus resolutions regarding such issues. These opportunities will be conducted over a 3 day program in July 2020 which will be posted in the very near future.

Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery (LNFH) was built in 1940, and was the largest fish hatchery in the world at that time. Along with Entiat and Winthrop national fish hatcheries, LNFH mitigates for the impact of Grand Coulee Dam on salmon and steelhead. LNFH currently raises 1.2 million spring Chinook salmon every year for release, supporting tribal, sport, and commercial fisheries.

The hatchery is a National Historic Landmark. Located just two miles from main street Leavenworth, Washington’s popular “Bavarian village,” the hatchery serves as a de facto community park. 100,000 visitors each year enjoy the 170 acre site, with over five miles of wooded trails, an award-winning pollinator garden, and a visitor center open year-round. The Wenatchee River Salmon Festival has been hosted here in September since 1990.
PROPOSED SECRETARIAT OPPORTUNITIES

Hello Prospective Secretariat Member:

We wanted to reach out and determine if you had any time this Spring to consider coming to Leavenworth, WA as a prospective Secretariat member for our College Preparatory and Model UN Academies and DIGIVATIONS XGENS - Cascadia International MUN, DXCIMUN. We will hold DXCIMUN from April 16 to April 19, 2020. We are offering room, Board, travel assistance, and a small stipend.

Our program is unique since we are integrating our NASA award winning STEM+ARTS+HUMANITIES+MOVEMENT curriculum including its major emphasis on climate action and adaptation, other environmental and sustainability topics, and vital SDG educational components into MUN awareness, associated skills development
and participatory delegate preparation. An important benchmark will be to highlight why Model UN is important to the future of developing Global Citizens and their ability to connect with others in person and through their respective digital communities to solve vital local, national and global challenges.

Another one of the topics on which we are focused is space exploration and weaponization (which is truly anti-weaponization)
consistent with the UN ‘s UNODA, UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, mission to prevent an arms race in outer space to be discussed in simulations of the General Assembly and a Security Council Historical topic. We are very open to considering topics important to you and other prospective Secretariat Team Members, as well as our son Jacob Berman who served as a Vice-Chair at WIMUN NY 2019.

Students will learn through Socratic discussions, hands-on experiential activities, interaction with Dr. Anne and myself, and other Program Experts representing various fields including scientists, artists, environmentalists and industrial, government and university leaders.

Our partners include leading environmental educational and mitigation organizations including the US Department of Interior’s Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery.

An important element of XGENS’ Model UN programming is having students prepare to successfully participate as delegates for future domestic and international DIGIVATIONS XGENS Model UN Delegation opportunities. However, our primary motivation is enabling youth, especially those who are 22 and younger, to harness their unique cognitive abilities and energy to change the world from a local, national and international level with like minded peers who are positively interconnecting as Global Citizens.

In addition to learning how to more effectively research, write and present their position papers and respective resolutions, students will enjoy a hybrid DIGIVATIONS CAMP DEMIGOD INSTITUTE camp theme experience of Harry Potter. Every summer our NASA award winning DIGIVATIONS Camp DEMIGOD INSTITUTE presents the World’s Only Overnight Innovation & Literary Harry Potter Camp, harrypottercamps.org, Camp Half-Blood, Camphalf-blood.org, and Camp Fandom, campfandom.org.

As a note, every summer, while our Camps are small and personalized, less than 25 per week, we have students who come from most US states, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

DIGIVATIONS’ value and mission statements are “Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators” and “Fostering Future Mentors and Thoughtful Leaders to Enable Positive Social Change.”

We look forward to the prospect of discussing the aforementioned with you. Please send an email to Dr. Steve Berman, dr.steve@xgens.org expressing your interest along with a CV and short bio which highlights relevant experience in terms of working with youth and Model UN programs whether locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Drs. Steve and Anne & Jacob Berman
