XGENS
XGENS ERA DEFINED & EXTERNAL RESEARCH
WHEN: The most relevant time period could well be designated unsurprisingly as the iPhone era commencing in 2007, accelerating with the uptake of Facebook (2004 and beyond) and other social media platforms on a mobile device, firmly taking root with the iPad launch in 2010. Redefinition of game consoles and enablement of live multplayer interactions around the globe such as Xbox Live in 2002 also began to change the communications paradigm. Many other hyper accelerated changes were occurring in the world of communication technologies and associated entertainment. These changes were and are permeating society in unbridled ways presenting challenges to the human condition especially in the context of a person(s) ability to receive, process and logically apply data, and otherwise engage in, and solve a diverse array of cognitive tasks.
EXTERNAL RESEARCH: There is a developing body of research and a few interesting scientific arcticles attempting to address the interrelationship of technology, cognition and impact on neuralplasticity. One of the core impediments in conducting reliable research is defining the what and how of the research studies and the variables due to the continuous and rapid evolution of different forms of technology. The present state of research is such that the scientific community is far from being able to arrive at an acceptable consensus of cause and affect on even the most fundamental issues with the exception of clarity that "instant gratification" is being sought and effectively demanded along with potentially disintegration of focus.
WHAT DO WE KNOW AND WHY DO WE CARE:
We do know that there are observable corollaries between cognition and different forms of technology.
Researchers have observed patterns in data indicating that instant gratification has increased, focus is challenged, depending on the technology, human interaction for certain tasks may be considerably
enhanced.
The limited resources available to formulate an ecosystem of scientific research, constantly accelerating technology evolution, and the corollary pace of society will likely only yield an understanding of the XGEN ERA through observation and interaction of large numbers of youth in diverse settings chartered to engage in and complete various tasks across the spectrum of multiple intelligences. We believe that programs such as DIIGIVATIONS XGENS, and DIGIVATIONS various programs including its ongoing NASA award winning DIGIVATIONS CAMP DEMIGOD INSTITUTUE Overnight Innovation & Literary programs provide the basis for such knowledge.
Essentially, Alvin Tofflers prognostication of "Future Shock" has been attained and exceeded in incalculable ways. However, ideally we should look at this ERA as one where education and knowledge, and the ever transforming societal landscape of learning, living, working and playing will bring abundance to all.
